Obama To Detail 'Next Steps' For Iraq

U.S. Sen. Barack Obama, the increasingly popular Democrat considered a possible presidential candidate in 2008, will later this month outline his "next steps" for U.S. involvement in Iraq.

Obama will unveil his proposed plans for Iraq at an event hosted by the Chicago Council on Global Affairs Monday, Nov. 20.

Democrats toppled congressional Republicans from power in elections this week, in part due to unhappiness among U.S. voters on the current direction of the war led by President Bush. Newly empowered Democrats say they will push for a new course for the war.

Obama campaigned for a variety of Democratic candidates ahead of Tuesday's election.

Obama arrived in the U.S. Senate in 2005 and was not in office when the Senate authorized the invasion to topple Iraqi strongman Saddam Hussein.
